Second Place!
We had our last basketball game yesterday and we ended up with second place! Our school has never really won anything, so this is a big accomplishment for everyone. On Tuesday we played in the "Championship" against the best team who had beaten every other team by at least 20 points. We gave them a good run, but ended up losing by five points. If we had beat them, we would have been the champions. Then we played again yesterday to finalize our second place spot... We were killing them for the majority of the game, but they made a run in the fourth quarter to get within a few points of us. During this run, one of the opposing players got a fastbreak and several other players ran back to try and defend... one of our players tripped, causing the whole pack to fall down (including the opposing player with the ball). The other team got mad, thinking that he had tripped on purpose, and there were words exchanged along with some pushes. The referees ended calling a technical on us and ejecting one player from each team. But we were able to regain control of the game and come out with the win.It was a really fun season and I think the guys learned a lot too. We ended up with a record of 6-2, which isn't too bad. We're going to have a party this weekend and then we will hopefully have a teacher vs. student game sometime before Christmas.

wow, i don't really know how to put this gently... if you got second place, you didn't really win anything. (second place is just the first loser, as they say.)
If you are encouraging this contentedness with mediocrity, then maybe you aren't the best representative of the USA to the Honduran people. I mean, cheering for second place is my shibboleth for determining whether or not someone is Canadian. You aren't Canadian are you?
Josh, you are so right. I guess it was a bit of an oversight to say that we "won"... I mean we got beat twice- how could we "win" anything...
Thank you for your "gentle" rebuke. :)
I'm not Canadian, but I do have a set of Canadian oven mitts.
